When Is The Best Time To Take A Pregnancy Test?
Generally, it’s best to wait until at least a week after your missed period to take a test. Waiting allows sufficient time to produce detectable hCG levels, the pregnancy hormone.
It’s best to take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning before drinking water which can dilute your urine.
We know it can be hard to wait, but waiting will give you the most accurate result.
How Does A Pregnancy Test Work?
A standard pregnancy test detects the presence of the hCG hormone in your urine. Your body only produces this hormone when pregnant, so if a test detects hCG, there’s a good chance you’re pregnant.
A pregnancy test does not reveal any information about the pregnancy’s viability, gestational age, or location. For that, you’ll need an ultrasound.
A pregnancy test is only an indication of pregnancy. An ultrasound confirms your pregnancy.
At Origins Pregnancy Care Center, we will be happy to provide you with an ultrasound referral to confirm your pregnancy.
- It reveals how far along you are in your pregnancy.
- The location of your pregnancy.
- Whether your pregnancy is viable (growing) or you’ve had a natural miscarriage.
